Sandstone for an outdoor kitchen counter top?

    My wife and I live in the Dallas area and we very much like the look of some of the Tennessee Crab Orchard, as well as some stone called Rainbow and
Teakwood stone samples we've seen.
We are building a sizeable outdoor kitchen area, and would like to know if these types of stone would make a good counter top.
Your responses to an earlier question on Crab Orchard sandstone was that is was a fairly dense
and hard sandstone. Is it tough enough to handle the constant Texas sun/weather and the stresses my kids and guests would put on it?
Note that it will not be covered or protected from the elements.
We assume we would have to use a good penetrating sealer and possibly have to apply it yearly or biannually.
Foot note: The sides of the outdoor kitchen will be an Oklahoma flagstone veneer, that matches our pools 18" raised beam/edge and the retaining wall set back and around the pool.

We've looked at Granite and cement counter tops, but the sandstones seem to have a great deal more character and color variations. I also want a material that would not radiate enough heat to cook eggs on, especially in our 100+ degree summers.
