rusty drops of water

Advice requested:  It appears that our mason dripped some rusty drops of water from his tools onto our brand new sandstone hearth. I can't think of anything else it could be besides rust.  The hearth was gorgeous before the mason started clean-up phase.  What should I do to remove these stains?

excess mortar from Lyons(Colorado)sandstone patio

How do we remove excess mortar from a Lyons (Colorado) sandstone patio,
laid a month ago. The grout lines are fine, but the spill over besides
the lines is unsightly. Should we sand, chisel, etch, or just let nature
and foot traffic wear it off. Thanks, Lisa

edges of the steps are sticky

Hello
We have sandstone laid in our living areas. It has been sealed by a professional company and is really effective. Problems is is that we put renters in our house for 12 months and they have stuck some sort of a double sided tape on our steps. Now they have gone and the edges of the steps are sticky with whats left. What can we get this sticky stuff off with that wont harm the sealer?

recommend a sandstone cleaner

Hi, I was wondering if you could recommend a sandstone cleaner. We have sandstone walls at our front steps and they are covered in moss. We have come across an acid based cleaner but we would like a kinder product. I look forward to your reply. Thank you.

Ancient Egyptian statue made of pink limestone

Hallo to your fasinating site.

I have a question that you may possible be able to help with. A friend of
mine has a fine piece of Ancient Egyptian statue that is made of pink
limestone. He has asked me exactly where in Egypt the stone may have
originally come from? He asked me as a geologist, but I am not clued up on
Egyptian geology, all I know is going from north to south there reef
limestones, then oolitic limestones (the Pyramids are built of this) greast
sections of the Theban series of limestones, then shales then sandstones and
finally Aswan granites. Anyone help with this one?

smudges from installation that needs to be removed

Good afternoon,
In my new home we have a fireplace that is new also. The profile is light sandstone and we have the over mantel also. I would like to add a little color to the room and need to know how and what is best used. Also there are smudges from installation that needs to be removed. Any suggestions? The installers and distributor are clueless.
Thanks, Paula

stone enhancer and sealant for sandstone

I did a mosaic using tumbled river stone and marble. I worked on a
fiberglass mesh, then set the mesh and mosaic into a large piece of
sandstone, using thinset. It is for a grave site.
My question is the following: is there a product which will act as both
stone enhancer and sealant? Or should I enhance, then seal?
The mosaic/stone will be outdoors in a wet climate (Pacific Northwest),
but next to no frost.

Thank You

Veronica

Oil Stain in sandstone floor

I have just seen your site for the first time and wished I had seen it before I laid our floor.
Recently Oil was spill on our Indian sandstone flagged floor.
It was already sealed with Lithofin Multiseal and Lithofin Stainstop.
Th oil sank right into the stone.
I tried to scrub the floor with soap and water but the area around the
stain has gone white and the oil stain looks as dark as ever making it
really stand out. I fear the floor is ruined.
What do you suggest I do and what is the name of the products that will
help - if any.
Thanks,
Phil Hantman

White Carrara marble has yellow stains

I installed a White Carrara marble in my bathroom. After a year all the marble has yellow stains. I would like to know if it is something wrong in the installation. Or the quality of the marble, can there be bad quality marble Carrara or all white marble stains yellow. Or is something wrong in the surface where the marble was installed? Can there be some kind of water filtration? Or fungus? How can I fix this? and return the original color of the white Carrara stone? Thanks, Beatriz, July 12
