Spotty Pietra Cardoza

Hello.  I installed Pietra Cardoza in my kitchen (without knowing it was so darn absorbent) and now I have horrible spots and stains all over it!  I have been told that it can be honed and resealed.  Is this the best route?  It is beautiful, but I just cannot live with all the water and food stains that are everywhere.  Is there a particular sealant that is best?  I hate to put it in the rest of my house if this is the way things will always be.    Thanks so much for your response!
